Working in the classroom helped me understand the challenges students, families, and teachers face in ways that I never anticipated. My students and their families motivate me to make our public education system better in any way that I can. My dream is that every single child feels safe and loved in a school that nurtures their talents and goals, so that ultimately, they can live a life of their own choosing.

After leaving the classroom, Lily joined the Urban Leaders Fellowship in Indianapolis, where she worked with the Indiana Philanthropy Alliance and the Mayor’s Office of Education Innovation, focusing on early childhood education policy in Marion County.
