I joined RISE INDY because I believe that education is one of the most important ways that we can bring about positive change in our community. Developing and maintaining an excellent educational system, one that supports and empowers all students, is the single most significant investment we can make in the future of our community and our country.
Luke is a Bilingual Organizer at RISE INDY, engaging and empowering parents in Center Township schools to take a more active role in their own children’s education, as well as the educational future of all Indianapolis students. He also engages the larger community in voter registration efforts. A proud Butler graduate, Luke studied Biology and Spanish in college, earning Honors and High Honors degrees. His experience as a translator at the Newcomer School in IPS, serving primarily Spanish-speaking students and families, motivated him to join RISE’s efforts to advocate and activate Spanish-speaking families in the fight for educational equity. Although he does not have any formal organizing experience, Luke firmly believes in the power of an equitable education to create positive change in communities, and he is deeply committed to working for students and families who are too often left out of important conversations or who are denied access to resources due to language barriers.
