Peter Luster’s career in politics and government affairs is deeply rooted in Indianapolis and beyond. He embodies leadership across political campaigns and is especially skilled in digital innovation.
A proud graduate of Indiana University and Broad Ripple High School, he began his journey with the Obama for America campaign. As state director for President Barack Obama’s campaign, he was instrumental in securing Obama's re-election victory in Indiana. Recognized as the campaign's top urban organizer, Peter authored the national field plan for urban outreach, a contribution that demonstrated the breadth of his strategic impact. Because of his work, he earned a position as a political consultant on the Presidential Inaugural Committee. His campaign roles have included serving as the Executive Director of the Marion County Democratic Party and in leadership roles in a variety of political campaigns, including Joe Hogsett, Evan Bayh and Hillary Clinton.
At a position at the social networking app Nextdoor, Peter used his digital organizing experience to drive the platform's adoption rate in Indianapolis from 7% to 99% in just six months. He quickly advanced from field organizer to city manager.
Peter joined RISE to be able to give back and to continue supporting a strong public education system in Indianapolis. Being passionate about public education, he loves engaging with families to encourage them to be strong advocates for their students and schools. He’s excited that RISE is bringing families, teachers, school leaders, community leaders and policymakers together to make a real difference.
