My name is Sherry Holmes, I am a mother of two beautiful children who attend an IPS school. We have been living in Indianapolis for five years now and call this our home. I attended Saint Xavier University in my hometown back in 2010 and have some college under my belt; I also received my Child Development associate's in 2021 here in Indianapolis. I am eager to be in this space, I want to keep learning and be in tune with education all across the board. I am passionate about being a RISE UP organizer and believe in excellence overall. I am very excited to do this work, getting to work with families and to continue my learning in this space of education.
I believe every school should provide the necessary needs for every student even if that looks different. I am also hopeful that every student no matter the school type, no matter their race and no matter the status can get quality education. If every school can provide that no matter where a child attends, their brains can be fed with the knowledge that’s needed to succeed. Education is very important and is a must for our youth to be the best they can be. Our children are the future, and we need to stand beside them 10 toes down.
I became a RISE UP Parent Organizer for RISE INDY, because I want to build remarkable relationships with parents and help them learn to be parent advocates for their children. That could possibly look like providing workshops for parents, helping them gain knowledge from multiple things, for example: school funding, school functions, and when board meetings are approaching and where. I am here as a parent myself wanting to bring other parents along this journey with me. We can’t stand alone, we are stronger as a village, and as that village of parents we can be that voice for other parents and RISE UP for ALL our children in ALL communities and schools alike.
