After researching RISE INDY, I found that the organization's values and mission aligned with my passion; education is the foundation of life! It is extremely imperative that children receive not only, equitable but QUALITY education. I am a mother of 3 beautiful children who attend charter schools and have been directly affected by a lack of funds, lack of opportunities/resources, and a lack of teachers of color. Before RISE INDY, I did not realize how important it is for children to see teachers and leaders that "look like them" and the importance of voting, especially local voting!
As a child, I attended several IPS schools then transitioned to Wayne Township 3rd-12th. At a very young age I noticed the difference in, what I know now, as traditional IPS schools and Township schools. I had access to a surplus of programs, lunch options, resources, sports, activities, and better opportunities in general while attending Wayne Township schools. All children should have access to quality education, resources, and opportunities.
As an Organizer at RISE INDY, I plan to educate, engage, and empower families to take an active role in their children’s education, as well as the educational future of all students. Our voices matter, our lives and our children's lives are affected by the leadership of this world and if WE do not SPEAK-UP for OUR needs we will continue living in the shadows of this world.
